Sara never intended to build a big, loud house full of love. It just kind of happened. One paw print at a time, she welcomed dogs and cats into her home while uncovering a powerful message: animals aren’t “just pets.” They’re family.
Here’s how it all began.
The Beginning
Before her pack of four dogs and two cats, Sara had Bowser the Rottweiler by her side. They were best friends for years until he passed away in 2018. She expected that empty hole in her home to go away, but it didn’t.
Soon enough, Sara went through her own personal tragedy. Her younger brother, her best friend, died in a car accident. Sara felt like she was existing but not living. She no longer had a reason to jump out of bed each day.
The Puppy Everybody Picked
The next few weeks were strange. Without communicating with one another, family members from all over began looking at dog advertisements online. They discovered something miraculous:
Every member of the family had chosen the same puppy!
His name was Milo, and Sara cried when her sister sent her the video of him riding home in their car. She knew before she even met him that he was meant to be with her.
Milo: Small Dog Who Brought The Sunshine Out Again
When Milo first came home, he was just over two pounds. Sara had been used to living with Bowser, who was close to fifty pounds. As you can imagine, things were about to feel extra fluffy around her house.
Milo needed Sara by her side 24/7. If she walked into another room, he cried. If she took a shower, he cried. Sara thought he had separation anxiety and would grow out of it.
We now know she was healing him and he was healing her. If Sara had a bad or stressful day, Milo could usually sense it before she does herself. His gentle whimpers in the middle of his deep sleep wakes Sara up. He jumps into her lap and remains there until she coos at him, making sure she’s okay.
In December of 20 25, Milo would have to have surgery on both of his patellas. Although everything went well with the operation, something changed in him after. Our confident little furball became hesitant of new people and environments.
Many who see Milo today only hear the sweet bark coming from his throat. They don’t notice the fear those barks disguise. Sara knew Milo needed another dog to run and play with.
Enter Gino!
Gino came into the family when he was just five months old. Sara will never forget watching Milo and Gino’s four eyes meet for the first time; it was love at first sight. Gino became the goofy family dog immediately. Always starting fights and wrestling matches, he kept everyone laughing every day.
One interesting thing Sara noticed was when Gino could cuddle up with Sara or play with Milo, he’d always choose Milo. Sara got defensive at first. But as she looked closer, she realized something:
Not every dog shows affection the way we expect them to. For Gino, his love is silent but consistent. He aims to protect his pack at all costs.
That unwavering love goes deeper than most could’ve imagined. As Molly started having her litter of puppies, Gino stepped into an accidental parental role. As soon as Molly made the slightest squeak, the golden retriever would fly over to her side. Sometimes, he beat Molly to her babies.
Gino sniffed each puppy, caring and making sure they were alive. If he noticed a puppy roll off the blanket, he’d guide them back with his nose. He was there for every weigh-in, every first wobbly step, and cuddle.
When the puppies became too squirmy for Molly, Gino would entertain them with play-bites and kisses while she caught her rest. He loves Milo more than any other dog, but Alayah has stolen a piece of Gino’s heart.
Ever since the day she was born, Sara has watched him dote on her with such kindness. It’s been one of the most beautiful things she’s ever witnessed in her life.
Molly: The Dog Who Only Needed Someone To Trust Her
When Sara came across Molly’s picture online, she knew she had to meet her. Molly was just 2.5 years old when Sara found her. There wasn’t a dog staring back at Sara from that photo. Those were the eyes of a scared soul asking for help.
Molly had never known life as a family dog. She didn’t know what it felt like to be pet gently or what a normal walk looked like.
The first couple of months with Molly were difficult. Putting a harness on her sent her fainting. Putting a leash on her made her try to rip it off. Being pet scared Molly. Sara took things slow, knowing she had to earn her trust.
Sometimes their family walks became Molly sitting in a stroller as they walked her around the neighborhood. Slowly but surely, Molly began to thrive.
Walking right beside her family became a thing. Sleeping in their beds and cuddling with them on demand became normal. Molly is the friendliest when she’s had enough and can unwind in the background. Sara has learned not every dog is meant to be your lap dog. That’s perfectly okay. That’s Molly.
Alayah: The Puppy Who Adopted Sara
Mario, one of Molly’s puppies, was slated to stay with Sara and her family. Unfortunately, Mario passed away when he was only fifteen days old. As Sara sat crying on the floor beside all eleven puppies, something incredible happened.
Little Alayah broke away from her brothers and sisters and crawled up Sara’s leg to lay across her feet. She knew who needed her that day. Alayah may have been only fifteen days old, but she adopted Sara that day, and Sara didn’t hesitate to adopt her right back.
Now, Alayah is a ray of sunshine in Sara’s life. Bold, confident, and adventurous, she’s got her father’s personality with her own twist.
6 Hearts, One Family
Also in the family are two cats. Aila and Zingo finish off the family by adding their special brand of trouble to videos. From four dogs and two cats, six hearts reside in Sara and Mario’s home.
When Sara looks back at pictures of her crew, she doesn’t see prized animals posing for the camera. She sees trust, healing, friendship, and respect between all of her animals. Those four things have been the core of her message this whole time: Every animal has fears, strengths, and ways of loving us that are unique to them.
